Dr. Boek now serves as the Chair of Division & Reader in Chemical Engineering & Renewable Energy, Queen Mary University of London since 2017 and the Honorary Research Fellow in Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge since 2016. Prior to this, he has worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London as Senior Lecturer from 2009 to 2015, in The MathWorks as High Performance Computing Expert from 2015 to 2017. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of Twente, Netherlands in 1993. He has published over 90 referred papers in high-impact journals, including Nature, JACS and JFM. His H-index is 36 (Jan 2018) and some of his publications have been cited over 300 times. His current research focuses on Soft Matter and Complex Fluids, Statistical Mechanics, Multi-scale Flow and Transport in Porous Media.

Injection of CO2 into porous rocks deep underground, such as saline aquifers, is a promising tool for reducing CO2 emissions and mitigating climate change. However, the relevant physico-chemical processes at the pore scale, which determine reservoir scale storage capacity, are still poorly understood. We model this multi-phase process using multi-GPU Lattice-Boltzmann simulations to investigate the displacements at the pore scale typically happen by sudden jumps in the position of the interface between brine and CO2, Haines jumps.
